The best bars in the world

by Tweeky on 09/01/09 at 3:44 pm

Tweeky with a drink! For those of you who like a quiet drink by the ocean, and for those of you who like more than a few in a popular nightspot, this post asks the question:

“Where is the best place to have a drink… in the WORLD?!?!?”

So, wherever you’ve been and whatever you drink, let us know where you think is best. It can be a town, a resort or, even better, a specific bar, club, hotel or pub.

In case you were wondering, my favourite place is a quick wash in the bird baths of Australia. Watching the sun set from The Opera Bar in Circular Quay is really quite something.

Over to you…

One of the most relaxing gin and tonics ive ever had in the world ,was at no other than the Vertigo “Moon bar” ON THE 61ST FLOOR of the Banyan tree hotel in bankok, with its excellent views over the chao Praya River, giving a friendly ,romantic ambience as the sun sets ,a great place to escape all the hustle and bustle of this great city. OR just for that special moment!!

A little place called “Applebees” in Santa Ponca, Balearic Islands.

I’m not a big fan of places like Magaluf and kicked up a fuss when it was offered as a destination for a lads outing a few years back. After a big sulk, my friends backed down and suggested a place called Santa Ponca and I agreed without looking at a map. It’s situated less than 3 miles from Magaluf and is essentially a ‘Irish’ version of Magaluf.
In between all the fun I was having and sleeping off hangovers we found a place called “Applebees” hidden away.
Good atmosphere and a quiz every night and a great place to hide from the jeers after England were beaten by Northern Ireland in the qualifiers.

Having spent a week in Saudi Arabia, dry as a bone, car + driver 25k across the causeway linking Saudi Arabia with Bahrain and first stop there after – JJ Murphey’s Pub. Among the entertainment in Bahrain JJ Murphy’s pub is very famous. This pub gives entertainment with bands, karaoke, and disco and a very decent pint of Guiness – A bit of an ‘Ice cold in Alex’ moment!!

The best bar in the world must be Blue Peter bar just outside of Cape Town,South Africa.

The seating area is just a massive grass bank, which is 10 meters away from the beach. Plus the views are awesome with Table Mountain and Cape Town harbour all in the background, but the best of it all is the dress code Shorts and barefoot for the guys and bikini’s for the girls. Who could ask for more!!!!

Definitely worth a visit if you are ever in the area!!!!

Without a doubt the best bar in the whole wide world is the Celt, 81-82 Talbot Street, North Dublin Centre! I had the best night of my life in this pub! From the outside it looks tiny and if you blink you’d miss it! That’s why I have given you the address, beacuse if your going to Dublin you don’t want to be wasting your time spending a fortune in Temple Bar ( Very commercialised and Touristy!) If you want to experience Dublin at it’s best you need to get yourself over to the North side and into The Celt!

They have live Music nearly every night and there is always a friendly local or two more than happy to teach you the Irish Jig or an Irish Ditty! We danced on the table’s in the garden and I sang until I lost my voice! The whole pub was singing and dancing and the locals welcome you with open arms! Even the boys of the group gave the Irish jig a whirl!

I went to Dublin with a mixed group of 10 of us and was a little worried that pubs would be concerned about that many of us rolling in! Not at all – the more the merrier.

Noel the landlord is a Legend and will spend time with you, letting you know the best places to visits, the cheapest Taxi’s etc.

The prices for drinks are cheaper than if you head over the river to Temple bar and you really do get to experience real traditional Dublin at it’s best!

    You have to go!

A special bar for me and my ski pals is the Nederhutte, Obergurgl in Austria.

After a serious day skiing on the Tyrol ski slopes you can race down to the Nederhutte where you’ll experience live music, dancing on tables, excellent premium beers and an atmosphere to be reckoned with.

It is open till late, you can then ski the last mile or so down into Obergurgl. You maybe under the influence on the way back down but thats just part of the fun!

One of my favourite experiences when skiing in Obergurgl.

I don’t think it even has a name but there is a great bar overlooking Placa Reial in Barcelona. I cant remember how we even heard about it now but if you didn’t know about it you wouldn’t know it’s there. There is a plain doorway with no signs on and basically you ring the bell and one of the staff will come down and let you in. It’s full of locals and is open pretty much all night – they play great music and serve cheap cold beer and the atmosphere was just really friendly. A great hidden gem.

As the day draws to an end after a good days skiing there is nothing nicer than a couple of quiet beers in the Maisalm Bar situated on the slopes above Saalbach watching the sun set over the mountains before before skiing a few hundred yards further down to join the madness of the Hinterhagalm bar for more than a few beers with a late evening ski decent in the dark back to Saalbach

My favourite bar would have to be The Victoria Room, Darlinghurst, Sydney. It’s great for Lychee Martinis and cosy evenings.

The UFO Bar in Bratislava located on top of the New Bridge, 95 metres above the city is my kind of place. You can sip your cocktail whilst having a lovely bird’s eye view of the Danube river, the old town of Bratislava and the Austrian Alps at the same time.

The views are soooo stunning that they even make you forget about the prices…

    Definitely worth a visit!!!

There’s been so many that I have frequented and alot I cannot remember!!!! BUT, I can remember the good times had at The Sunday School in Tobago.

Every Sunday night the locals of Trinidad and Tobago make their way to the best party of the week. It’s not just for locals, tourists flock in droves. It’s a fabulous place. It wasn’t how I imagined it would be. In the streets there are a few street vendors selling alcohol and food, and cars are parked on every corner. The main building housed the steel band but there’s more music outside where the party just continues in the streets. It’s Fab!

I went with my friend who was a bit dubios as we were two ladies on their own, but the people are so nice and really friendly that once you start dancing with them you don’t stop! I think we made it back to our hotel when the sun was coming up on the Monday morning!!

If you like mingling with the locals, make sure you arrange a driver to take you and pick you up otherwise you could end up stranded.

One of the best bars in the world has to be the Yaletown Brewery in Vancouver.
A great place to go with friends and have a few cheeky Martini cocktails!! usually 3 for $10.00 on a Thursday night!!. Make sure you get there before 9pm as the queue is usually out the door!! with mainly us Brits taking advantage of the offer.

I can’t remember the name of this bar but it was on holiday in Santorini. A place where we could sit under candle light in oversized chairs and it was right on the beach so you can just sit with a glass of Vin Santo listening to the waves.

It’s too difficult to narrow down to a single watering hole. So i’ll go with a couple.

Empuriabrava, Cataluna, offers the fantastic “Surf Inn” a small friendly bar that offers Table Football, Pool, a Crazy Golf course out the back and sand on the floor. If you’re ever there then ask for the “Surf Inn Especial” a lovely drink that smells of nougat and I foolishly managed 11 in one night, now I cannot be near nougat without feeling ill.

It closes a 2am which is perfect to trundle the 100 or so yards to “Passarela’s” which is a club that offers all of the above but it backs out on to the beach and has an indoor pool, which I lost a camera to after the aforementioned 11 Surf Inn Especials.

Or you could go to “Cheers” in Boston…

The best place is Margaritaville in Montego Bay, Jamaica. A three story resturant/bar with music all day, a waterslide running from the top down into the water and a huge trampoline in the middle of the water outside! Lots of rum cocktails, jerk chicken and reggae. always a winner!

The best bar in the world has to be Shirley Heights in Antigua. Perched on a hillside overlooking English harbour this is the best place in Antigua to watch the sunset, made even better with a pint of Red stripe in hand and listening to a local steel band.

    Hi

We went to the Ice Bar is Spain, that was FABULOUS!!!! They only served Tall Cocktails with tons of alcohol in them, all the shot glass’s were made of Ice as well. We wore sexy poncho’s and gloves as i think it was about -10 in there, i think we stayed in there for 2hrs then we got too cold.

There is also one in London.

Not one bar but three – all of which on Walcot Street, Bath. The Curfew for its fine Wadworths 6x, The Hat and Feather – forever known to me as the Hippys Graveyard, and The Bell simply for its heady mix of people and fine choice of real ale.

Actually, make it four – if you can still manage the uphill hike. Finish up in The Star on The Paragon, a pub right out of the old days.

The best place was Pedro’s in Cala Blanca, Menorca.
Great music and the drinks were based on the stock market so you could see which drinks where cheap and which ones werent. They had a form party where it reaches upto your neck and pole in the corner to practise your Pusseycat Dolls moves!!

    Hi

I was recently in Koln, Germany, there is a bar in Hilton hotel called the “Ice Bar”, the bar is completely made of Ice and when you sit your large glass of smooth German beer on it, it keeps it nice a cold.

Doesnt though help your elbows get cold!

Great atmosphere in the place and live music on some nights of the week.

    An excellent bar.

    Anthony
