A Short Break in Bruges

Bruges CannalI have recently returned from a 2 night break in Bruges for my partners surprise 30th Birthday.

We went in the month of June for 2 nights and travelled by Eurostar from Ebbsfleet in Kent.

I was so impressed with Ebbsfleet station; the eurostar staff were really helpful and efficient. Checking in was really quick and easy. You only need to check-in 30 minutes before hand which is a bonus.

We did travel in standard class, however next time I probably would upgrade and pay for leisure select with a meal onboard and extra legroom.

The connection from Brussels Midi to Bruges was quite simple (if you ask someone)
We did find it quite confusing to start with and ended up catching a very slow train to Bruges which took over 1.5 hours and stopped at every station (the usual time is about 45 Minutes if you catch the right train!)

We stayed at the Ter Brughe Hotel; the hotel is a 4 star property and is situated only a ten minute walk away from the centre. I am really pleased I chose this hotel as the hotel in my opinion was in the best location.

The rooms were clean and spacious, I did upgrade to a Deluxe Room overlooking the canal. I would suggest doing this for a special occasion.
The room we had was overlooking the beautiful canal. The room had antique wooden furniture and a large bathroom with everything you need.
The only down fall was there was no kettle in the room and the mini bar was very pricey.

Breakfast was also very good; the breakfast room was in the downstairs cellar of the hotel. The breakfast consisted of mainly: breads, cheese Jams and Yoghurts.

Saint Salvator CathedralBruges itself is a wonderful place to visit. I would probably just recommend staying 1 or 2 nights as you can see a lot of Bruges in 2 days.

I would recommend the following sightseeing in Bruges

  • Canal Boat (weather permitting)
  •  Belfry
  • The Church of Our Lady
  •  Holy Savoir Cathedral
  • Basilica of the holy blood

The above is just a few of the things you can do in Bruges. I really enjoyed the canal ride the best! You are in the boat for approximately 30 Minutes you get a guided tour from the driver as well which was really interesting.

Eating out in Bruges can be quite pricey, for example a main course would cost £20 and upwards if you chose to eat in the main square, try just outside of the main square as we found this a lot cheaper.

Overall we had a fantastic time in Bruges, and would definitely return and travel by Eurostar.
