We chose the Lakitira Beach Resort in Kos on a half board basis with Mark Warner as this was a family holiday with our 18 month old daughter and another family; the resort seemed to be geared towards families but with loads of facilities for everyone. We had previously been on a villa holiday when she was younger, but found that we were stuck in the villa too much (and didn’t get to see other people) so we hoped this would offer the best of both worlds.

The resort itself was set on the beach and, with whitewashed buildings, it was well set out with plenty of space. It had two pools and two beaches (one for adults only and one for families), loads of tennis courts and water sports all included in the price. The rooms were nicely furnished but we really didn’t spend any time in them. All the staff were very helpful, and towards the end of the holiday the manager even saved ‘our’ sun beds for us!

One of the best facilities for us was the childcare which was fantastic and well worth the £150. Our daughter enjoyed it and it gave us a few hours each day to ourselves (the boys played tennis while we just lazed around the pool bar). The childcare staff were great and we often saw them around the resort doing different activities with the children.

The resort had two separate dinner times (both buffet), an early sitting just for kids and a later one for everyone. Again this was perfect as it meant we could feed the kids and get them washed and ready for bed, and then once they were asleep could put them in the night crèche so we could have dinner in peace knowing they were safe. The only negative point was the buffet food, which wasn’t great and did get quite repetitive – but at least it meant we didn’t have to cook. As everything else was so good it didn’t bother us too much.

We did try the Greek Taverna on site at extra cost. The food was nice but quite expensive and the staff rushed us to leave by clearing away all the tables around us and turning off the lights!

The on-site facilities were great and we played a lot of tennis and tried sailing and kayaking, which were all included in the price. We also had a massage in the spa which was very relaxing.

I have always booked my holidays independently before this trip, but was very glad we booked through a tour operator this time as were caught up in the XL Airways collapse. Again Mark Warner were brilliant and found us alternative flights at virtually the same time. In fact, had we not seen the news we would not have known there was any problem.

All-in-all a fantastic family holiday, enjoyed by everyone. We all came back very relaxed which with two 18 month old children is quite an achievement. I would definitely recommend Mark Warner resorts.
